Movies: The Holiday, How Do You Know?, No Strings Attached, All About Steve

It’s been awhile since I made a movie post. Since I love girly romantic movies, here are the latest four movies I have watched lately:

The Holiday
How Do You Know?
No Strings Attached
All About Steve

No Strings Attached and How Do You Know? are newer films while the other two are circa 2006 and 2010(?).

All of these are light, feel-good movies. Sandra has perfected romantic comedy to a T. She plays Mary Horowitz in All About Steve perfectly! And lest you think this movie is all about Bradley Cooper (Steve), it isn’t. It is all about a cruciverbalist (Crossword puzzle maker – that’s a real job, as evidenced by Mary, who even attended a career orientation to discuss but she ends up feeling depressed.

No Strings Attached was a surprisingly nice movie. I have not seen an Ashton Kutcher movie I really liked, so this was a first.

I need to give How Do You Know another try. I was so.so.so.sooooooooooo bored when I was watching this movie. It didnt help that the movie is all about endless dialogue (quotable quotes anyone) during the mushy parts and I was working when I watched this. But get this, I stopped the movie five times. I was that bored. I literally just forced myself to finish it.

The Holiday is my favorite among the four, and I looooove, adore, crush Jude Law here :) Nice story, lovely setting, perfect romantic comedy with a punch :)

Black Swan

The husband and I have a new hobby – filling our ipods with music and movies! We haven’t watched movies together since the kids were born so we have developed a habit of downloading movies and watching them at home. We try to watch one movie a night and we are making such good progress :) .

I was initially hesitant to watch the Black Swan as I watch movies to help me unwind, not let me think or get me traumatized, BUT, the movie delivers. It is so effective and Natalie Portman so perfect for the role that I cannot distinguish which one was real and which one was a delusion. Props to the director for being able to seamlessly and artistically orchestrate a very brutal, dark movie into a masterpiece.

My sister told me Natalie Portman trained for a year to attain a ballet dancer figure to look convincing. She does. Watch the film, just so you can take a peek and be drawn to the world of delusion..and ballet Smile
