Offbeat Fun In London – WorldGamesItalia.net
Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, London abounds with options for entertainment and culture that are unrivaled by most cities. The city itself is a sprawling, almost overwhelming, metropolis that could take weeks to explore fully. Part of the fun of experiencing London is finding places that are off the beaten track, places that the average tourist wouldn’t know about – places that aren’t in the guidebooks. Check the Internet for flights to London to compare fares, and check out these ideas for places to visit in London where you won’t be battling crowds or seeing typical souvenir stands.
Cabinet War Rooms
During the darkest hours of World War II for Britain, Winston Churchill and his staff were holed up in a bomb proof bunker in Westminster, desperately conducting the country’s strategy while German bombers flew overhead. The Cabinet War Rooms museum has preserved this historic spot without altering it: virtually everything has been left just as it was, so visitors can get an uncommonly realistic glimpse into what the experience must have been like for those men. There’s a phone that was exclusively used for Churchill’s phone calls to FDR, the U.S. President at the time, and an exhibit on Churchill’s life to peruse.
Hackney City Farm
If you fancy a traditional English breakfast, or if you’re vacationing with the kids, you’ll love Hackney City farm, which oddly enough, is in the city. Check out the pigs, cows and goats, and dine on said animals in the café. There’s a petting zoo as well, and best of all, other than the cafe, it’s all free. The farm is a great escape for those who need a break from the bustle of the city, and you’ll find many locals here taking advantage of what feels like a transplanted piece of countryside.
Caribbean Cruises
One of my dream vacation would be to take a Caribbean cruise – that way I could explore more of the Caribbean. Yet I have also heard about some of the great caribbean hotels and resorts, especially in Jamaica. I have heard about the all inclusive hotels vacation packages and they make booking a stay at one of these resorts seem very tempting. All inclusive means that the resort takes care of everything that you need. You pay for the price of your vacation and all of your resort costs are included such as meals, drinks, accommodations and entertainment. With cruises I do not think this is so. The all-inclusive concept is about helping travelers make the most of their holiday with minimum hassle and no thoughts about what an extra drink or an extra snack will cost,or can I afford dessert? However, all-inclusive packages differ greatly and it is essential that you choose carefully to make sure that the hotel you book offers the package that meets your requirements.
Ocho Rios hotels are a great choice for newlyweds, couples, and honeymooners. It is a favorite destination of American, British and Canadian tourists under the age of 40, who, among other things, appreciate the fact that English is the country’s native language.
Ocho Rios is the main cruise port to the island of Jamaica. There’s great shopping, picture-perfect beaches, golf, polo and of course, the world-famous Dunn’s River Falls just waiting to be climbed. Just west of Ocho Rios, you’ll find the resort town of Runaway Bay, one of Jamaica’s most popular destinations, and home to Breezes Runaway Bay.
Jamaica ‘Mon!
A cousin of mine recently celebrated their fifth year wedding anniversary and went to Negril Jamaica with her husband for five days! Being very lucky to have worked in beach resort hotels in Hawaii and Florida where they are currently based, they knew that the only way to spend such a momentous occasion is by the beach. And since they have practically lived in the most known beaches in America, they branched out and went to inclusive Jamaica!
They went to a beach resort Negril called Breezes Resort. Having worked in the America’s premium resorts (they are both hotel employees), they handpicked Breezes because it is world-acclaimed as the recipient of the Conde Nast Travellers’ Readers Award for “Best Resort”, Caribbean and Latin America and the AAA 4-Diamond Award.
Here are the things they also got to experience:
1. They went to Rick’s Cafe. It was recommended by their tour guide that they watch the sun set at this popular Negril cliff side restaurant and bar. They also got to see the local brave divers dive from the high cliffs.
2. They experienced the ATV Safari. At the Rose Hall Estate, located on the north coast, your adventure begins with a short safety and tour briefing, followed by a demonstration on the use of the bikes. Once everyone has been given their helmets and are comfortable having ridden in a practice ring, you start on your fully guided journey to the 700 feet above sea level to the beautiful Mount Zion.
3. Port Antonio Rafting and Blue Lagoon. Attentive Tour Guides are available to show guests how to paddle and where to go while on the river. The rapids speed up just enough to increase the excitement.
4. Catamaran Cruise
5. Of course, a visit to the Bob Marley Museum. Located outside Kingston, the Bob Marley Museum reveals the life and achievements of this legendary Rastaman through artifacts, writings and photographs.
Sedona Balloon Experience
I knew a couple who had a very unique wedding experience by having an informal but fun wedding up in the air with just their best friends and a minister as their witness they said their vows in a Sedona hot air balloon ride. It is their life long dream to have their wedding up their and both of them love the outdoors and scenic spots which is why they chose to have their memorable day up in the air. That day, love is in the air, literally.
I always want to experience riding in one of Sedona balloon rides. I’ve been hearing raves about it from my cousins and now my friends got married on it. Their raves made me curious so I paid their site a visit and I read great testimonials from their clients plus the photos are just overwhelming, you can see how picturesque the views you are able to see while you are up there, it will be great to bring my DSLR taking great photos of God’s creation while I’m on a Sedona hot air balloon ride.
Experiencing the sunrise or the sunset above is definitely something I want to experience with my husband who also loves nature tripping. They even have the Splash n’ Dash where the balloon descends for a few minutes on water for a cool ride. They also have the low contour flying if you want to see native wildlife, just make your cameras ready all the time and have it on high shutter to capture great wildlife in action. After the ride you even get a first flight certificate to remember the amazing experience.
Going to Italy
I have always loved watching Italian movies and I am like one of the millions who love Italian food. I can eat pasta and pizza every single day for a month and never get tired of it!
I would like to be able to visit Italy one day. And since I would like to know more about their culture and how they eat and drink and explore the historical sites the country has to offer, I am leaning towards taking a guided tour.
One of the tour companies that have been recommended by tourists is Collette Vacations. Travel Dream Wish List
Everybody has the ultimate travel dream wish list. Mine would always need to family-friendly as I cannot see myself travelling without my children. There are family vacation destinations which tops our list – Brazil would be one of them. The premier Breezes Resorts have family vacation packages which would be perfect for our little family. Getting affordable family vacations without sacrificing our safety and enjoyment is on top of my priority list!
Beach Bound
I have never been a beach person. But the really nice getaways I have been seeing coupled with the tremendous and terrible heat these days have made me decide to give the beach another try. That is why I have been looking for affordable family vacations two months before summer! An all inclusive vacation looks like the answer to my prayers!
If money would not be a problem, I would like to book us a cruise to the Caribbean. The Breezes Hotels offer all inclusive vacations – hotels that give you rates that includes room and lodging + meals and a great selection of activities to choose from. And with the influx of hotels that cater to families along the coastline, I am sure it would make for a great family vacation. Breezes have all inclusive resorts in Jamaica, Panama, Brazil, Bahamas and Curacao. Pick the destination that appeals to you most, and depending on whether you have young children or not, as some resorts are especially designed for families with young children.
Now if you are a newlywed couple, Ocho Rios hotels are known to be a great place for honeymooners too. Ocho Rios is a favorite destination of American, British and Canadian tourists under the age of 40, who, among other things, appreciate the fact that English is the country’s native language. Tourism is slowest between June and November, which is hurricane season in the Caribbean.
Cruise Deals Help You Get to Your Dream Destination
If you’re longing for that perfect vacation, where you can take in the open seas, beautiful tropical beaches and clean blue skies, then a cruise may be just what you are looking for. It’s always nice to get a good deal on a vacation, and you can find many cruise deals by reading newspaper ads, visiting a travel agency, or by going online. There is never a shortage of cruise ships in the summer months, when the weather is at its warmest and the locals are inviting worldwide.
So how do you find great cruise deals? Many travel destinations receive a lot of advertising, so the first thing to do is to decide where you want to go. Travel websites can give you a good idea of what kinds of deals are available, so it becomes easier to consider what you can afford. Next, read up on what is included with the offer. Some cruises include the price of airfare from where you live to where the port is located, and even cover the cost of travel from the airport. The duration of the trip is also important to consider when deciding if the cost is worth what you are getting.
On a cruise you can visit places like the Caribbean, Barbados, Puerto Rico and St. Lucia. If you are in Europe, cruise ships traverse every corner of the Mediterranean, from Barcelona to Monte Carlo, Rome and more. You can also sail the Middle East, the Canary Islands, or even the Norwegian seas.
Whichever popular destination you choose, there is a deal available for you to take advantage of. Major cruise lines are known for their inclusive deals that make for great vacation packages. If there is somewhere you want to go that you haven’t seen yet, affordable cruise deals exist for you to have the chance to visit paradise.
Nassau: Mecca of the Bahamas
If I were to choose where to travel along the many islands in the Caribbean, I would choose the Bahamas. Bahamas on its own is a sight to behold, with their pristine beaches the most popular attraction. The unmistakable crown jewel of the Bahamas is the Island of New Providence, home to Nassau, Paradise Island and Cable Beach.
Among the beaches in the Bahamas, Cable Beach is known for its white and beautiful sands. This is where you will find the Bahamas all inclusive resort – Breezes! The only super inclusive of all of the Bahamas resorts and it is known for its close proximity to the exciting nightlife and casino area of Nassau. Things to Do in Ireland
Since I cannot take my mind off Ireland today, I better just share some things I have learned from reading all the travel brochures and web sites about the country. Ireland is considered the third largest island in Europe and the twentieth largest island in the world. It’s capital is Dublin and due to its lush vegetation it has earned the name Emerald Isle.
Considered to be a country of many islands, the first thing you are recommended to do once you check out of their airport is hire a Dublin car rental. The car hire Dublin airport has many options.
It will allow you to go to places that are most recommended by tour guides.
1. Visit The Blarney Stone
The Blarney Stone is world famous and is part of Blarney Castle which is five miles from Cork. Legend has it that if you kiss this piece of bluestone, you will magically be possessed with the gift of the gab.
2. Visit Castles And Stately Homes
If you enjoy touring stately homes and castles, you’ll be spoiled for choice in Ireland. Take your pick from Blarney Castle, Dublin Castle, Ross Castle and Muckross House & Gardens, just to name a few.
3. Tour The Ring Of Kerry
The Ring of Kerry is perhaps Ireland’s most famous tourist attraction. This is a 110 mile trip covering some of the most breathtaking scenery Ireland has to offer. Starting out from Killarney, it is an all day trip that encompasses the Atlantic coast, small fishing villages, stone forts and many more local beauty spots that you may remember for the rest of your life.
4. Visit The Guinness Brewery In Dublin
If you love beer, then why not sample a drop of Guinness at the Guinness Brewery in Dublin? You can tour the brewery and discover just how they make this famous stout.
5. Visit The Cliffs of Moher
The Cliffs of Moher in Country Clare tower over the ocean and are a very popular tourist attraction. It can be wild and windy at The Cliffs, so make sure you’re prepared for the weather and don’t get too close to the edge as you can literally be blown over!
6. St Patrick’s Cathedral
If you enjoy visiting churches, then you’re going to love St Patrick’s Cathedral, which was built centuries ago. Anglican services are held on a daily basis, and there is a part of the church that features famous writers’ tombs. North of St Patrick’s Cathedral there is a park that boasts statues dedicated to famous Irish writers.
Ireland, here we come!
Or so I wish.
I received the most amazing news from a friend that she was assigned for a three-month work/vacation time for work at Ireland. Ever since we watched the movie PS I Love You, we have been dreaming of being able to go there and get lucky and meet the (Irish) man of our dreams. Of course, this would never happen because we are both (very happily) married but it never hurts to plan and dream impossible dreams.
Since she will be arriving alone by next week, her boss hired a Dublin car rental for her to use on location so she can mobile. It has been easy to hire one because everything can be done online. The Dublin Airport car hire can done directly online.
I really don’t know if she will be able to drive there, but right now we are going through the rules of the road of the country.
Here are some special considerations:
* The first thing to remember is that you will be driving on the left hand side of the road. If you are traveling from the UK this is no problem! However if you are coming from the USA and many other countries you will have to adapt to driving on the left.
* When driving on Irish roads, and when it is safe to do so, overtake on the right hand side only.
* Please note that all distances and speed limits are measured in metric (kilometers per hour) in the Republic of Ireland compared to the UK and the USA. Bear this in mind if you are going across the border into Northern Ireland. Road distances on signs are measured in kilometers in the Irish Republic too.
* Speed limit on Irish motorways is 120 km/h. Speed limits on National roads is either 80km/h or 100 km/h but pay heed when you pass through a village, town or urban areas the speed limit is usually reduced to 50 or 60 km/h.
The Ugly Truth (Going on Hot Air Balloon Rides)
After watching The Ugly Truth just a few days ago, I realize I really want to ride a hot air balloon soon. You need to see it so you can understand where I am coming from but it is safe to say that it is one of the highlights of the movie.
While the movie shot on location somewhere, I would prefer to ride a Sedona hot air balloon ride over Arizona because the view and landscape is simply more stunning! Imagine riding on a Sedona hot air balloon just before sunrise – you get to see the rocky terrains of the Arizona dessert in all its fiery glory! Sedona hot air balloon rides are being given by Sky High Balloon Adventures. Imagine riding a hot air balloon like this:
The tour consists mainly of these:
The Take Off:
They only have rides during sunrise so you will be expected to drive off to the launch site to meet with your pilot early in the morning.
The Ride:
Watch the sunrise during your ascent, after a gentle lift-off, you’ll be gliding over the Verde Valley.
The Landing:
Once you land, a commemorative picnic and chase crew awaits you. The pilot will then give you a history of ballooning and present you will a commemorative certificate of your flight.
The tour lasts three to four hours with the flight lasting anywhere between one and one and a half hours depending on the wind and the pilot’s discretion.
By The Beach
It’s going to be school season in less than two weeks and yet summer has shown no sign of leaving. The heat is terrible and it’s making everyone cranky. We go out to cool off, so it is draining our pockets as well. If only I had enough joe to buy a piece of Tamarindo Real Estate so we can live by the beach and everyday would be like a summer outing.
As it is, I love our little spot in the mountain. When seasons change, our place is a perfect hang out for family gatherings and outings. But when the heat is on and summer is here, there is no perfect place than by the beach!
Jet-Setter
I have an uncle who lives in his briefcase. His work takes him to different countries in a week, and there have been times when he was at three countries in a day, with one of them being a stop over. This usually happens when he is in Europe and the Middle East.
So how does he do it? Pack lightly and never suffer from jet lag? And never even miss a flight or look haggard after flying then going straight for a conference meeting?
He once shared to us that he packs like a European, he rolls his clothes (never folds) so that it won’t need ironing preventing creasing too. He also tries to bring wardrobe in basic colors – black, grey, navy, boring colors that one would not notice if it has been slept on or stained (wise thinking!). He also has mastered the art of freshening up in every comfort room he happens to stop and encounter during transit. To prevent jet lag, he keeps his watch on whatever timezone he lives in. He also takes advantage of the airport transfer offered by travel agencies. He often does it ahead of time and online. That way, when he arrives at an airport, especially if he just needs to switch flights, he would just go straight to the shuttle service and drive away!
Travelling to Israel
Whenever I hear about the disturbances in Israel over the news I cannot help but feel sorry for the country. Israel is one of the countries which has the most enriching culture – being a a center of the three religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Abraham, Moses, Ishmael, Jacob, King David, Jesus and Muhammad are part of Israel’s history. Israel has 4000 years of history, culture and religions! Can you imagine that?
And yet when you mention Israel these days, the first thing that comes to the minds of people is “war” and they deem the place unsafe. The news usually show wars and violent scenarios, but in reality these are only in several points near the border and the majority of Israel is very quiet and peaceful. The people in Israel are known to be the happiest people in the world!
If they can only experience the following places:
- Jerusalem – many pilgrimages are done in this city. Most often they are called pilgrimages to the “Holy Land”, being known to be the center of Jesus’ evangelization two thousand years ago. What is interesting to note is that both the centers for Christianity and Islam can be found here.
- Tel Aviv –It is the center of Israel, and is known to be alive day and night, with night clubs open all night.
- Dead Sea – it is known to be the lowest point on Earth with the highest salt concentration in its waters. Though no living creature is known to survive in its very salty waters, it is packed with minerals now used to make the famous mud mask. Dead Sea hotels offer spa treatments and luxurious relaxation treatments using ingredients straight from the Dead Sea (mud masks and salt scrubs). People, in fact, come to Israel for the Dead Sea! The special sea helps to cure diseases and its special mud is a cure for the skin.
Summer Plans
What are your summer plans? My fellow mommy friends are up into their arms looking over cheap but great vacation package deals and summer lessons for the kids. We are still undecided and everything is still on the planning stage – but we have agreed to take time off to go on vacation, just us family. So I am looking for an affordable but nice place to take the family to, if only we can afford the Outer banks foreclosures on houses, we have a summer house to go to every year!
Any suggestions?
Summer Weddings
Summer weddings have always been thought of to be destination weddings. It has all the main ingredients to make it happen – gorgeous weather, vacation time for most kids, not to mention discount packages on travel tours. The beach has always been one of the top dream locations of soon-to-be-brides and the amazing location of the Caribbean tops the list. The shores of Riviera Maya are never the same once the Karisma line of hotels were built. Finally, there is a resort that caters to all walks of life – couples, honeymooners, families with kids, singles, even the more eclectic ones.
Lake Tahoe
One day my eldest goes up to me and says, “Mommy why have I never seen snow? I want to play in the snow!”. Trust my son to come up with weirdest, out-of-the-blue ideas. We live in an area where snow never happens. If snow did happen, I am going to be so scared for the future of the planet because that would be climate change at its worst! We would need to travel far to experience it and for now my son believes Lake Tahoe is the place to go.
Ski resorts in Lake Tahoe are very popular with people from the West Coast. You get the perfect scenery, the awesome slopes for skiing and resorts, inns and hotels that meet different needs of the family perfectly. It has places that are for advanced and beginner skiiers alike. There is plenty at Heavenly designed to keep advanced skiers happy and Kirkwood and Squaw Valley also have some spectacularly challenging skiing. The Gunbarrel on the Californian side of Heavenly for a chairlift is a tourist attraction so are the diamond blacks for which Squaw is famous.
There are also skiing lessons for the kids who are called Sprites and I am sure my kids will enjoy that one!
Places to Go in 2010
The Year of the Tiger is predicted to be a year of travelling and I cannot help but agree as I have so many friends travelling this year! I chanced upon this New York Times’ article about the top places you need to see this year while looking for KVM switches online.
I thought I’d share the top 10, the rest you can read about here.:
1. Sri Lanka
For a quarter century, Sri Lanka seems to have been plagued by misfortune, including a brutal civil war between the Sinhalese-dominated government and a separatist Tamil group. But the conflict finally ended last May, ushering in a more peaceful era for this teardrop-shaped island off India’s coast, rich in natural beauty and cultural splendors.
2. Patagonia Wine Country
Ten years ago, a group of adventurous winemakers set their sights on an Argentine valley called San Patricio del Chañar, an unusually fertile and eerily beautiful corner of Patagonia. They plowed, planted and waited. The outcome? A blossoming wine country with delicious pinot noirs and malbecs and smartly designed wineries.
3. Seoul (I knew I needed to see Gong Yoo!)
Forget Tokyo. Design aficionados are now heading to Seoul.
They have been drawn by the Korean capital’s glammed-up cafes and restaurants, immaculate art galleries and monumental fashion palaces like the sprawling outpost of Milan’s 10 Corso Como and the widely noted Ann Demeulemeester store — an avant-garde Chia Pet covered in vegetation.
4. Mysore
You’ve completed 200 hours of teacher training, mastered flying crow pose and even spent a week at yoga surf camp. What’s next? Yogis seeking transcontinental bliss head these days to Mysore, the City of Palaces, in southern India.
5. Copenhagen
As thousands of environmentalists heckled world leaders in Copenhagen last month for the climate summit, a solitary unifying note could be heard amid the cacophony of discord: the Danish capital has already emerged as one of the world’s greenest — and maybe coolest — cities.
Long Beach
Who doesn’t know about Long Beach? The beautiful city situated in California houses the nation’s busiest ports and largest marina docking everything from the tiny sabot sailboat invented here, to the historic Queen Mary Ship and huge freighters from around the world. As its name implies, Long Beach offer long stretches of beaches. There are some sandy beaches and coastline near downtown, Naples, Belmont Shore and Long Beach Peninsula that are enjoyed for their scenic beauty. But it is not all about beaches for Long Beach. Once you go downtown, you will be greeted by high rise condominiums and complexes — shopping, tour trips to museums and dining are the main highlights when you go to this place.
I guess the two most popular tourist spots in Long Beach are the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Queen Mary. You meet more than 12,500 animals as you explore sunny Southern California and Baja, the frigid waters of the Northern Pacific, and the colorful reefs of the Tropical Pacific at the Aquarium of the Pacific. The historic ship of Queen Mary has a Behind the Scenes Guided Tour of the historic ocean liner and World War II troopship, where you can see restored areas that have been under wraps since the final voyage in 1967, including the Isolation Wards and the aft Machine Rooms. Long Beach cruises by Carnival are also really popular. They offer 3-day, 4-day and 7-day itineraries year-round. All of these cruises go to Mexico. Once done with the cruise, you can try the famous Long Beach restaurants that offer waterfront dining such as Stefano’s Pizza and Bogart’s Coffee House!
Long Beach hotels, such as the Courtyard by Marriott Long Beach Downtown, is only walking distance to shops and restaurants. What’s a vacation without some shopping right? For mementos from the trip!
Travel Destinations
Most of my friends’ families are going to the happiest place on Earth this year, Disneyland. I would want us to go as well but the husband and I decided to prioritize something else. If we will be able to accomplish it within the first half of 2010, all systems go for Disneyland in time for Christmas.
We are also beach lovers so a Caribbean all inclusive family vacation remains to be in my travel wishlist alongside Europe and India. The Caribbean has been a popular spot for newlyweds, honeymooners, lovers and couples but what they do not know is that they have resorts for families too!
Honeymoon in December
I cannot get enough the Breezes Resort line! I went to their web site – http://www.breezes.com – and checked out all the resort they have from all the world.
I saw this picture from the all inclusive resort at Runaway Bay Jamaica:
![]()
My ultimate dream is to be able to experience swimming and staying in an infinity pool so this one caught my eye. There’s of course, the beach to soak in and enjoy – there are endless stretches of beaches, quite coves and shady hammocks within eyesight – perfect for honeymooners.
Actually the Bahamas all inclusive resorts are all worth it. They offer all inclusive packages that save you a great deal of money. No wonder they are a famous destination for weddings and honeymoon – make sure to consider inclusive Jamaica in your list. Ocho Rios hotels are worth it!
But wait, they not only offer packages for couples, but also families. There are a wide range of activities families can enjoy at the resort.
Breezes Bahamas welcomes singles, couples and families, 14 years and older.

Avista Resort
I have been obsessed with going to Myrtle Beach ever since I saw a gorgeous photo of a sunset cast along the pier on a beach shoreline. It made me want to go there as soon as possible. Travel Essentials
Travelling would always be included in every holiday season in our family. We try to limit it to one long trip everyday holiday season but invitations come all the time and it is hard to decline.
What do we always bring, aside from our portable GPS device?
1. Clothing – we pack light, as much as possible clothes that can be layered. No bulky clothing such as jeans and clothes that would require ironing! You need to make sure you have travel essentials too: medicines, first aid kits, travel guides, maps and if you travel with kids, toys and activities that will prevent them from getting bored.
2. We try to make sure that our luggage is easily identifiable with tags and labels you can spot even you are far away.
3. Music and entertainment, especially if we are on a long road trip. Our iPods are charged and loaded with lots of music and videos for all of us. Of course, we are really not a fan of hiking and camping so everything loaded in the car are not really bulky.
4. Cellphones.
