Sunday Stealing: The Disney Meme

I have been meaning to participate in the Sunday Stealing Meme again, especially since I read about this Disney Meme two weeks ago. I finally have the time to do this albeit two weeks late.

Home Theater Systems

One of my dreams for our home is to have a home theater system. As I’ve mentioned before, our family are huge movie buffs and couch potatoes. We can watch TV all day – having a home theater will be a great experience for us!

I just do not which one would be better – a plasma LCD TV or a HD TV. I’ve read many home theater buying guides and found out the ff:

LCD HDTVs work by shining a light behind an LCD panel made up of a fixed number
of pixels. Each pixel is either red, blue or green and is switched on or off when a
voltage is applied to it. When voltage is applied to a pixel, it is switched off,
meaning that light can’t shine through it.

The main advantage of LCD vs plasma HDTV is that LCD panels don’t suffer from
what’s called burn-in. This is a feature of plasma TVs where they are used to watch
TV stations with logos permanently displayed on-screen or where they are used for
video gaming with games that have static images such as a cockpit on flight
simulators. The image literally ‘burns-in’ the screen meaning that even when the
image is not present you can still see a faint trace of it on screen. So for video
gamers in particular, LCD is a better choice than plasma.

Plasma HDTVs have over a million chambers which house one or a combination of
gasses. When a voltage is applied to one of these chambers the gas ionizes and
emits ultra-violet light. This light strikes red, green or plue phophors coated on the
inside of the chamber and a pixel emits this color light.

Plasma HDTVs tend to have better contrast than LCDs because, even when a pixel
on an LCD panel is switched off it doesn’t block all the light coming through and
therefore the pixel isn’t completely black. Plasma HDTVs also tend to have a wider
viewing angle than LCDs, as on LCD HDTVs the contrast and colour of the image can change when the screen is viewed from different angles.

It is safe to say that plasma TVs are the choice for screens 40 inches or less but as new technology comes in, this is bound to change!

Asian TV Series

Asian countries like Taiwan, Japan and Korean make the best drama and comedy series. And I say that without bias. Most of their series have already been shown in different countries and I can name three Hollywood movies that were made based from their movies as well. It is too bad that their country isn’t really keen on the English language and translation needs to be done all the time.

I am sure translators at Translia Services do not have a hard time translating these. They can translate almost any language. And you are guaranteed that they can deliver on time, with almost 0% errors.

TV Show Junkie

Where I have been the past few weeks?

I was busy reconnecting with this sociopath genius of a diagnostician – House. I am currently on Season 4 and I need to pace myself or else I would not get any work done this week. While on a medical point of view, House’s antics, stubbornness and even his way of diagnosing spells lawsuit and unethical practice of medicine (the diseases are also out of this world), I love the show. It makes me live and practice medicine vicariously through them.

House Season 1House Season 2House Season 3
House Season 4House Season 5

I won’t be buying the DVDs because 1) I dont want to apply for a payday loan for it and 2) Everything can now be found online! :) After House, I will be watching Grey’s Anatomy next. Nothing beats medicine melodrama with such a McDreamy on the tube! After that I might try Lost (it’s on its final season and I haven’t even tried watching it!) and One Tree Hill. Let’s see.

Everyone’s Hero and other Baseball Movies

Have you watched the movie Everyone’s Hero? It is the first animated movie dedicated to baseball! Here is the summary: “"Yankee Irving" is a heartwarming comedy-adventure, telling the story of a young boy’s thousand-mile journey to help Babe Ruth and the New York Yankees win the World Series.” I’m going to let Matthew watch this movie.

The last baseball movie I actually enjoyed was way back 1994 – Angels in the Outfield. Remember that movie? Here is the summary: “Roger, an 11-year-old foster child, hears his dad sarcastically say the chances of the family reuniting are as good as the California Angels winning the pennant. Roger interprets his dad’s comments as a promise and prays that God will help the Angels win the pennant. Following the prayer, a star winks back in agreement and angels unknowingly begin to help the ballplayers play better and win more games.”

That is why I want to have Matthew watch sport-related movies. I feel that they convey a moral lesson to be learned at the end. It helps me teach him the values of teamwork, hard work, sportsmanship, discipline, passion for something and camaraderie. After watching the movie – can you guess what he now wants? Yep. He wants Baseball Equipment!!! Can you imagine?

I might just get him this one:

yhst-68229184940255_2016_977120.gif

I love that he would be interested in baseball. It will train his eye and hand coordination movement, teach him the value of teamwork and sportsmanship and it is not much of a contact sport for me to be worried so much. Baseball equipment are also not that expensive, considering they have equipment specifically for kids – Kids Sports Inc has a variety of quality equipment that not only will interest the kids but give them the chance to play. For kids six year old and under, batting tees made of plastic would be safer.

On the Issue of Mailboxes

So I watched the Lake House movie again (a Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock movie) and while I love the story and the movie itself, I cannot help but notice what a ratty mailbox a very modern and lovely house has:

Lake House
One would think that they would have thought to use ecco mailboxes on the set. I can understand if for example one of them belongs to a different age (70’s perhaps) but both of them live in the 90’s!

Lake House

Personally, I think an ecco wall mount mailbox would have done the trick, but I do understand that the house stands in the middle of the lake! In that case a free-standing ecco mailbox would be better.

I prefer the e4-e8 styles of ecco mailboxes. May I suggest stuff that would have worked with the movie?

Here is an ecco e4 mailbox :
image

An ecco e6 mailbox is similar to Victorian mailboxes, very regal:

An ecco e7 mailbox is somehow modern:

While an ecco e8 mailbox looks like it came straight out of a movie!

High School Musical 3

My sister visited the other day and we watched High School Musical 3, her first time watching. It seems like I was right back at high school with all the Lockers I saw! Unfortunately, my  Locker was not as cool like theirs were. School Lockers was the least of the concerns of my school back then.

Back to the movie, we literally swooned and gushed to what was the best scene in the movie, in my humble opinion of course:
High School Musical 3 High School Musical 3 High School Musical 3

I am literally green with envy with Vanessa’s clothes and her man.

High School Musical 3 High School Musical 3

There were some scenes in the Gym Lockers where I thought Zack’s body was shown just for the sake of it being shown. I am not complaining though.  :)

Wood Lockers were not seen in the movie but I can bet that they ordered the lockers they used on the set at MoreLockers.com. I saw a couple from the site that were familiar in some scenes.

Disney’s Princess and The Frog

Finally, a colored Disney Princess – its first – in the new movie, The Princess and the Frog. My daughter will have a blast watching this. Let’s hope it shows in theaters soon so it can be her first movie! The Princess and the Frog

The Princess and the Frog

A modern day retelling of the classic story The Frog Prince. The Princess and the Frog finds the lives of arrogant, carefree Prince Naveen and hardworking waitress Tiana crossing paths. Prince Naveen is transformed into a frog by a conniving voodoo magician and Tiana, following suit, upon kissing the amphibian royalty. With the help of a trumpet-playing alligator, a Cajun firefly, and an old blind lady who lives in a boat in a tree, Naveen and Tiana must race to break the spell and fulfill their dreams.

Can you believe this hot woman is 60? She must have been using the best anti wrinkle face cream. Actually, I was more drawn to her fit body!

HGTV

Back when we still had cable TV, the rare times I watch TV, you can bet that I’m glued either to MTV, HBO or HGTV (I know, so very different channels, right? It goes to show how many aspects my personality has).

I love HGTV because it lets me see homes I have always dreamed of having and how it is so near yet so far from my reach. As much as I hate to cook, I love to watch to cooking shows. Chefs make it look so easy – I bet they never have to wish the dishes afterwards or clean up after their mess )That’s why I hate to cook!). Even the cooking is done at the most lovely kitchens, ranging from sleek to modern to cozy to elegant and efficient.

I notice though that sinks these days are so different. While most kitchen sinks still have the same chrome faucets, sinks have virtually been transformed to something else. You have ceramic, over the counter sinks (which look pretty but are really scary if you think about it.)

Here is proof:
image
Kitchen Faucets remain to have double handles and chrome finishing. I would love to shop at the Faucet on Sale store. They seem to have the biggest discounts on the most quality faucets.

I’d want a traditional sink, thank you very much.

Everything Oprah

It came as a shock to hear about Oprah Winfrey’s announcement that her long standing show Oprah is coming to an end. Her show, spanning 25 seasons, have 6.8 million viewers, standing tall and above the rest among other talk shows. "Here is the real reason: I love this show. This show has been my life and I love it enough to know when its time to say goodbye," Winfrey said.

Not that Oprah Winfrey will be any less visible. It is expected that she will be opening a new show soon, under The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), and have more activities lined up for Harpo Productions – her multi-media outfit production company.

Oprah’s legendary sense of style and taste have clearly been seen in her show and her “O” magazine. It is no wonder that opening an Oprah store would come naturally. The Oprah Store, the official store of the Oprah Winfrey Show, houses 900 products that include souvenir items, loungewear, activewear, sleepwear, basics, O baby, and select South African arts and crafts.

It not surprising that is carries womens plus size clothing as Oprah herself has had to deal with plus-size issues all throughout her show. There are a lot of stuff on clearance that would make ideal Christmas gifts too.

Do not get misled though, that the store is only for women’s clothing. Things that Oprah loves are also there from blankets to umbrellas and baby stuff.

There are a lot of yoga clothing on sale, you might want to check them out too.

Some of the things that I love:

Cable or Satellite TV

I am in quite of a dilemna. Part of my Christmas gifts to our family is finally subscribing to cable TV. It has been almost one year since we had one – it just wasn’t offered in our area yet. Now that it is, satellite TV like Direct TV is also offered.

And now I do not know which to sign up for. Direct Satellite TV has a lot of specials right now that I am so close to signing up.

A cousin recently signed up for Direct TV in California because her contract with Comcast expired. She got it primarily for NFL and NCAA, sports staples for her husband.

Ouch.

I’d never seen anything more beautiful—even as I ran, gasping and screaming, I could appreciate that. And the last seven months meant nothing. And his words in the forest meant nothing. And it did not matter if he did not want me. I would never want anything but him, no matter how long I lived. Bella Swan, New Moon, Chapter 20, p.451

Before you, Bella, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars—points of light and reason… And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn’t see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything. Edward Cullen

Twilight New Moon Quotes

I need to make sure that the Cole Haan shoes of the big boy is scrubbed and cleaned for his school act in a few days but I googled for more New Moon book quotes. Enjoy!

I didn’t have to look to know who it was; this was a voice I would know anywhere—know, and respond to, whether I was awake or asleep… or even dead, I’d bet. The voice I’d walk through fire for—or, less dramatically, slosh every day through the cold and endless rain for. Edward.
Bella Swan, New Moon, Chapter 1, p.4

Edward had drawn many careful lines for our physical relationship, with the intent being to keep me alive. Though I respected the need for maintaining a safe distance between my skin and his razor-sharp, venom-coated teeth, I tended to forget about trivial things like that when he was kissing me.
Bella Swan, New Moon, Chapter 1, p.16

Be good, please.
Edward Cullen, New Moon, Chapter 1, p.16

Do you think I’ll ever get better at this? That my heart might someday stop trying to jump out of my chest whenever you touch me?

More New Moon Stills.

It’s Monday and I really need to work but here I am trying hard not to surf for more New Moon the movie still and screencaps – but I fail. It doesn’t help that my fellow Twi-fan friends are still as over the moon as I was with New Moon.

So I learned that shooting for Eclipse the movie has wrapped up (follow Eclipse’s director Chris Weitz’s twitter!) on October 24th and post-production will take 8 long months. Scheduled showing is on June 30th, 2010 and you bet that date is blocked for the movie as early as now. I want to buy all the magazines featuring the Twilight cast but judging from everything I am seeing online I might need to avail of the payday loans offered at the office to be able to get them all.

So I do what I do best – I surf for everything. The internet can really be a valuable source of information!

Soooooo…..

Team Edward?

Team Jacob?

This was one scene that made me giggle like a schoolgirl – especially when Bella grabbed Jacob’s hair by her fist while Jacob was sitting on her bed….*sigh*

BELLA SWAN! YOU ARE ONE LUCKY LADY!

New Moon

New Moon

I have been blogging about it months before it hit the big screen (if you have been following me you would know I blog about it every two weeks, together with my search on a Medicare supplement for our family every now and then), so you would not be surprised that I was able to see it the day it opened at the theaters. I was blessed to see it with girlfriends who are also twi-fans so all my (over)reactions were normal as we were all (over)reacting the same way.

I wish I can show the five stills that made my heart beat 1000times per minute but I can’t seem to find them all online. Rest assured, give me another week and my researching skills would have uncovered it!

1. Edward saying goodbye to Bella and kissing her on the head one last time before going away. That accomplished what 100 dialogues never could. Good job Rob P!

New Moon stills
(This still was not it)

2. Jacob giving Bella the look at Emily’s place after fighting as a werewolf with fellow Quilette werewolf Paul.

3. Jacob and Bella on her truck on the way home before Jacob smelled Alice’s scent.

New Moon stills

4. Jacob saying, “Bella, don’t go…for me.” before Bella & Alice went to Italy to try and save Edward from hanging himself in front of the Voltourri. Of course, Kristen Stewart had to ruin the scene by doing nothing but bite her oh-so-very-nice lips.

5.Edward’s “Marry me…Bella” – enough said.

Based from my scenes above, you can very well see that for me, Jacob was the star of New Moon :) As Bella said, “You are like your own sun” when she was cuddling with Jacob on her truck. And it is true, Taylor Lautner SHONE in this film – with his acting and his buff body, which is hard work I know :D . Edward has a few flaky scenes – I don’t know why he always seemed to be “reeling” it in all the time but his last scenes with Italy with him looking gloriously f-cking ugly but still amazingly gorgeous (I know – how does he do it?) was his redeeming grace. He was good there.

New Moon Movie Still

Bella was lame, and her only shining moment was at every succeeding scene she was shining and glowing and becoming more gorgeous and beautiful at the same time.

That said, CG animations were great. There were a few too many melodramatic action scenes but how can you portray vampire fight scenes without being gory in a romantic mushy movie right?

The movie was SO MUCH better than the first, and though I am not a Rob P fan, you can count on me to be first in line for Team Edward :) Jacob gave him a run for his money and for that alone, he earns a space in my dreams every night :D Stone cold though – all the way :D How can I say no to the romance and wisdom and passion of a 109 year old man in a 17 yr old (great) body? :D

Tomorrow is New Moon.

If I could just insert a countdown timer on my blog just to show you how much I am excited to see this:

New Moon Movie It is insanely better because I get to watch it with friends who are fellow Twi-fans :) .

Here is some behind the scenes peeks for you to get all excited about more:

Happy 40th Birthday Sesame Street!

Source.

Sesame Street

Cookie Monster now eats vegetables, but the core values of "Sesame Street" aren’t much different from the show’s first broadcast.

The following is a partial transcript; for full story, listen to audio.

In the span of the four decades that "Sesame Street" has been on air, original cast member Bob McGrath has done over 4,000 episodes. On "The Takeaway," he called the show an "ongoing 40-year experiment."

"It’s wonderful that we’re in about 140 countries now, 120 English-speaking and 20 foreign co-productions," said McGrath.

Delaina Dixon, who blogs about TV, says "Sesame Street" has made such an impact that plenty of celebrities have offered to be on the show.

"This season alone, you’re going to see Eva Longoria-Parker, Sarah Jessica Parker; you’re going to see of course First Lady Michelle Obama on today," said Dixon.

Since its inception, "Sesame Street" has been a pioneer in children’s programming, featuring an ethnically diverse cast, highlighting the needs of the handicapped, weighing in on issues like discrimination and more.

"They’ve really kept up with the times and the needs of the kids from one generation to another, so that’s to the credit of the research and the writers," said McGrath.

Dixon credits "Sesame Street" with being open to reinventing itself. "Today it’s got a new opening; it’s changed its format to a block format, trying to match the programming that we see in children’s programming today. But, in the same way that it’s changing, it’s always stayed the same. There’s a familiarity to it — you’ve got Big Bird, you got Oscar the Grouch, you’ve got Cookie Monster. And the theme of kindness has never gone out of style."

McGrath says while it has very little to do with him, people get overwhelmed with emotion when they meet him.

"That happens a lot, and it has nothing to do with me personally. But I’ll meet women in their 30s and they’ll take one look and break down in uncontrollable sobbing. And I say, ‘What’s going on?’ And they’ll say, ‘It just brought back such a rush of memories from being 3 and 4 and sitting with my peanut butter and jelly sandwich and watching Mr. Hooper and Big Bird.’"

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

** As part of my goal to re-educate and expose myself to the world, I am watching movies and reading books like there is no tomorrow. I am happy I am getting reacquainted again with my old self – but know that I like pretty feel-good movies after a hard day’s work. So you might not see anything from me that deep. I do write about movies I enjoyed and would love to watch again though.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

A comedy about getting dumped, and taking it like a man.

The ultimate romantic disaster movie.

Summary:
Peter is a composer and a likable sad guy who’s devastated when his girlfriend of five years, Sarah Marshall, the star of a cheesy CSI-style crime show, dumps him. He weeps, he rails, he mopes. Finally, his step-brother Brian suggests Hawaii, so Peter heads for a resort on Oahu where, as he’s checking in, he sees Sarah and her new beau, Aldous, a polymorphously perverse English rocker. The weeping and moping starts again, until Peter is rescued by Rachel, a thoughtful hotel clerk who invites him to a luau and to hang out. Although he constantly runs into Sarah and Aldous, Peter starts to come alive again. Will Sarah realize what she’s lost, and what about Rachel?

Instead of trying to compare online life insurance quotes I have received over the weekend, I watched this!

You might think that the movie is your usual feel-good B movie but it isn’t. But first you might get shocked with Pete’s frontal nudity at the first 10 minutes of the movie so I need to tell you now – this might not be suitable for your kids.

I love how vulnerable and heartbroken Peter was portrayed in this film – it catches a glimpse of a real man who got dumped (and worse, cheated) by a long time partner. And while one might think that the Rachel is love on the rebound, I love that the story stayed true to life, that it really takes time to fall in love again because after a long term relationship, one must discover himself again and really live along for awhile, to make sure that when he moves forward, there will be no looking back.

It truly is America’s favorite past time. Even in movies, the baseball sport is always included.

Here are Hollywood’s Top 10 Baseball Movies:

2. Bull Durham (1988)
3. Field of Dreams (1989)
4. Major League (1989)

It’s obvious I’m not much of a baseball fan – I have only seen 4 out of the 12 movies that got in the Top 10 – three of them are at the bottom rung. I love Rookie of the Year, Little Big League and Angels in the Outfield because they are family movies, and are very light movies. While I watched Major League because of, you guessed it – Madonna!

The Twilight Saga: New Moon Soundtrack has officially been launched. I am even a few days late as I blog about this. I am pretty sure this will be on the Christmas gift wishlist of so many women :) .

Rumor has it that it was supposed to be launched at a later date but a leak  to one of the soundtrack songs prompted production company to move the launch date to an earlier one.

Fans are way happy!

I have the Twilight soundtrack from before and I remember I had the entire soundtrack on repeat for so many months.

Movie: Sunshine Cleaning

** As part of my goal to re-educate and expose myself to the world, I am watching movies and reading books like there is no tomorrow. I am happy I am getting reacquainted again with my old self – but know that I like pretty feel-good movies after a hard day’s work. So you might not see anything from me that deep. I do write about movies I enjoyed and would love to watch again though.

Sunshine Cleaning

Life is a messy business.

Summary: A family. Rose and Norah, in Albuquerque, lost their mother when they were young. Rose is responsible – a housecleaner, raising her seven-year-old son Oscar. She’s also having an affair with Mac, a married cop, her high-school sweetheart. Norah can’t hold a job. Their dad, Joe, is quirky. When Oscar is expelled for odd behavior, Rose wants to earn enough to send him to private school. Mac suggests she clean up after crime scenes, suicides, and deaths that go undiscovered for awhile. Rose enlists Norah, and Sunshine Cleaners is born. Norah bonds with the dead, Rose finds out that it’s a regulated business, and complications arise. Can a family marked by tragedy sort things out?

What do you get when you team up two delicate beauties, Amy Adams and Emily Blunt, in a movie? You get a drama that is full or ironies.

The title itself is full of ironies as the storyline is dark, and somewhat real. Watch the two beauties be normal people, act unglamorous and basically try to live.

The storyline is not that dark, trying to leave up to its viewers things that would be better off unsaid. You get to see the legendary tale of a popular beauty queen in high school who gets knocked up, left to raise a child by herself and be a mistress to her old flame, a quarterback. She is living the “I cant believe you ended up like this” life.

I love how everything turns up rosy  in the end but real.

You always end up being responsible for bringing sunshine to your life. That’s what I learned from Rose, who ended up cleaning murder and suicide scenes after seeing her own mother kill herself when she was young. Talk about going full circle and having closure.

Movie: I Love You Man

** As part of my goal to re-educate and expose myself to the world, I am watching movies and reading books like there is no tomorrow. I am happy I am getting reacquainted again with my old self – but know that I like pretty feel-good movies after a hard day’s work. So you might not see anything from me that deep. I do write about movies I enjoyed and would love to watch again though.

I Love You Man

Are You Man Enough To Say It?

Summary:
Peter Klaven’s world revolves around his real estate work and Zooey, his soon-to-be fiancée. After he pops the question, she calls her best friends and they go into wedding planning mode. Peter has no male friends and that poses problems: will he turn out to be a clingy guy, and who will be his best man? Zooey, her friends, and Peter’s brother Robbie offer help that results in awkward moments. Then, at an open house Peter’s hosting, he meets Sydney, an amiable, low-key guy. They trade business cards, and Peter calls him to meet for drinks. A friendship develops that’s great at first but then threatens Peter’s engagement and career. Can guys be friends and couples be in love?

  • This is not your average slapstick comedy nor a comedy with the trademark Ben Stiller/Adam Sandler taglines. Punch lines are delivered very smoothly.
  • Paul Rudd is a very undestated/undernoticed actor, playing the part of a not-your-usual heterosexual male. What can you say? Guys like Peter Klaven exist AND they are not G-A-Y.
  • The movie was not boring for and made me smile at times. It has your traditional happy ending, and usual climax scenes but all in all this a movie that would qualify wasting your time for 2 hours.
  • WATCH IT.

P10 Film Fiesta at SM Malls

I know I haven’t been sharing reviews on the movies I have been watching lately so when I chanced upon this I realized I have watched everything they will be offering. I will share to you my reviews in the coming days.

Launched last month, the film festival features reruns of movies (including The Golden Compass, Inkheart, P.S. I Love You, My Sassy Girl, and Streetfighter, among others) for only P10 plus P5 amusement tax. For movie schedules and venues, check out the SM Cinemas website. The film festival will run up to November.

Hi! My name is Jane and I’m married to Joe.

The only form of exercise I get everyday is when I surf the virtual waves on the web and the only muscles I have in my body are at the fingertips.

I write all I can find on the web when I surf while sipping my coffee.

PS. And I love joining memes too.
