Entertaining at Home: Poker with Friends
As a social activity, poker is hard to beat. Getting a group of friends to a home game provides many opportunities for friendly chat, social banter and just to hang out for an evening. That is why the phrase “poker night” with friends have become popular. .
Here are some ways to make it even more enjoyable:
1. Serve great food, especially snacks.
There’s nothing better than playing poker with beers, sodas and a selection of pizzas, or whatever food your group prefers. Great food can make all the difference to an entertaining evening. There’s no need to splurge when buying food. Frozen pizzas, heated in the oven, along with a selection of breads and chips can be just as tasty as those delivered from the store – at a fraction of the price.
2. Invest on good poker equipment.
You need at least these three items to be able to hold a game of poker: playing cards, a poker table and chips.
A decent set of playing cards is easier to shuffle and less susceptible to getting damaged. In fact, it’s always worth having a set in reserve. When it comes to poker tables, they add the right atmosphere and provide the felt to hold the cards in place and stop them sliding. Finally, a set of poker chips is much more convenient than shifting around cash and saves all kinds of questions of the type “how much are you playing with?”. Chips are always easier to glance at than cash. It also gives one the feeling of playing the “real” thing like in a casino.
What do you do though when you are left alone at home and there are no friends to play poker with? There are online casinos that can help you be entertained!
iPhone Apps: New Games?
While I ponder what to do with my blackheads on nose (should I just let them be or have a facial already?) I need games recommendations from all of you.
I do not play that much. I am pretty loyal to Bejewelled Blitz. But I have kids who need to be entertained.
So far I have downloaded Bop It, Egg vs Chicken and Angry Birds Rio. I also think Kids Company Mouth is promising.
Any recommendations?
Microsoft Kinect
Have you heard of Microsoft’s answer to Nintendo’s Wii? Look at the new addition to the xBox 360 system, the Microsoft Kinect.

You are the controller. No gadgets, no gizmos, just you!
Kinect brings games and entertainment to life in extraordinary new ways without using a controller. Imagine controlling movies and music with the wave of a hand or the sound of your voice. With Kinect, technology evaporates, letting the natural magic in all of us shine.

And they are doing a great sales job because the news state that it is the fastest selling gadget in history, beating the Apple iPad and Nintendo Wii console.
Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect sales has surprised the world of gaming, with the latest figures suggesting the sales rates of the Kinect have now surpassed that of the Apple iPad and Nintendo Wii console. Microsoft’s goal for the end of the year is 5 million units, after selling 2.5 million units in 25 days we would say they are well on there way.
There has been large advertising campaigns globally and it would seem that this console accessory has attracted even the casual gamer with its cutting-edge technology, allowing players to use their own body as a controller without wires or a conventional hand-held controller. A vast number of people have taken a liking for the Kinect, likely to be due to the unique and revolutionary gaming experience that it provides, as well as the additional cool features such as voice control.
As Neowin rightly put it:
According to Readwriteweb.com, Microsoft sold 2.5 million Kinect’s in the first 25 days which means they are averaging 100,000 units a day. At this rate, Microsoft has taken the title of fastest selling gadget in history from Apple as it is selling twice as fast as the iPad.

Why I Love Online Games
I have to confess that I have a passion for online games. I spend a lot of time on the Internet every day, but if I’m online simply surfing for too long, I start to feel like my mind is turning to mush. To jump-start the brain cells and put myself through some mental calisthenics, I’ll play a few online games during the day. Sometimes I might play for an hour or more, but there are plenty of games out there that are quick and easy to play when I just want to play for ten or fifteen minutes.
There are several reasons I prefer online games, but the most obvious is simply that I don’t like downloading too much stuff to my home computer. There’s only so much storage space on the family computer, and I don’t want to take up too much space that would be better for family photos and the like. I also like the impressive selection of online games you can find now for both PCs and Macs. You can play online games that have sound quality and graphics that are just as good as the best games on Xbox or PlayStation!
I’m partial to games that challenge my memory or require good observational skills. Hidden object games and mystery games are two favorites that stimulate my brain and give me a sense of accomplishment, but I have to confess I also love the pure pleasure of shopping games and the fantasy you can find in romance themed games. Role playing online games are also a treat because I can pretend to be someone else for a while without having leave home or compromise my real life. It’s always a great escape to start up an online game and forget about my cares for a few minutes.
