Online Colleges Class Experience
Facebook informed me this week that several students I know are not actually going back to school this year. That is, they are not leaving for school, although they are still full time students. Instead, they are taking classes from online colleges. I even know some friends in Europe who are working towards a degree with an American university while living abroad. I still marvel at what the internet can offer. Ten years ago, no one would have imagined that you could take college classes, let alone receive an entire degree, simply through the internet.
The idea is taking off, however. In the fall of 2006, about one fifth of college students were taking classes from an online college or university (according to America.gov). It is easy to understand why when you discover that taking classes online is less expensive than a traditional university, and is much more convenient.
The technology of online education can be more than a correspondence class. Instead of merely receiving a list of assignments, some schools have class sessions via the internet. In these classes, the professor gives a lecture or leads a discussion. The students can participate in the discussion, talking with each other and with the professor through microphones, which are hooked up to their computers. Some programs schools use also include something similar to a blackboard that a professor can write on during his lecture, which appears on the student’s computer screen.
The result is an experience in the classroom that is almost exactly the same as in a traditional classroom. It even includes teacher-student interaction, as well as student camaraderie. While the class does have a specific time, a student can participate as long as he or she has the internet. This updated version of online classes makes going to an online college very similar to going to a traditional school, while still convenient and affordable.
Beauty Schools: Regency Beauty Institute
People’s concept of beauty have changed throughout the years. Media and advertising agencies have greatly affected ordinary people’s concept of beauty and hyped up their vanity once they realize they can look like the models and celebrities they see on TV. Most even enroll in beauty schools like the Regency Beauty Institute. I actually see nothing wrong with that – it helps people feel good about themselves.
Regency has expanded from two Minnesota schools in 2002 to 80 (and counting) campuses across 19 states, with continued growth every year. Regency Beauty Institute is the fastest growing beauty school in the United States.

My Crazy Fundraising Ideas
I may not be qualified to teach or manage a school, but if I did run one, here are some interesting Fundraising ideas I would like to try.
Green Runway Competition
This particular idea just puts a little green twist in the usual runway contest. Instead of schools battling it out to see which can come up with the best-looking dress or clothing designs, participating schools are given a specific green theme to consider. For example, instead of using regular fabrics, contestants can be limited to just newspapers for materials. This means models will only be showcasing designs by recycling old newspapers.
It is definitely not one of your usual school fundraisers but it sure is relevant and challenging. It addresses environmental issues while continuing to focus on artistic skills.
Family Adventure Race
Ever since reality shows like Survivor and The Amazing Race hit international television, people have always wondered how it would feel like to join one. This should be enough reason for a family adventure race to become a successful fundraiser. It is not only interesting to people but it also allows the whole family to share in the experience.
Electronic Junk Drive
Instead of newspaper, the electronic junk drive involves the collection of electronic junks. This includes old, working or non-working electronic devices such as cellular phones, remote controls, remote-controlled toys, monitors, CPUs, electric fans, chargers, or even used accessories such as electric wires. These materials still hold value because they contain metals and other materials that can still be sold and used. At the same time, it promotes environmental awareness by recycling and reusing old stuff. It’s not as fun as the previous School fundraising ideas I mentioned but it is unique and very relevant.
Online Military Degrees for the Deployed
You enlisted in the military and you’re stationed overseas. That doesn’t mean you have to put your education goals on hold. Thanks to the Internet you can attend college from anywhere, even while deployed, and obtain online military degrees. Online colleges allow students to attend class where they want, whenever they want, even at three in the morning from Iraq.
Whether you want to advance your military career, or prepare for your exit from the military, a college degree can help you succeed. At MilitaryDegree.com you can learn about on-campus and online college credit and degree programs tailored to U.S. Military personnel and their families. Education benefits earned from being in the military can be used for tuition, and some schools even offer discounts for active duty and veterans.
Studying Again.
I cannot quite shake the feeling of wanting to (and needing to) study again. I know this might sound crazy but I have always loved studying. It is the nerd in me, I guess. I love the thrill of studying for hard exams and get such a high whenever I’d the results and that I had passed them with flying colors. Unfortunately, it takes a backseat as taking care of the family and trying to earn a living to support them needs to take the front row. Besides, I really do not have the time anymore. Online Schools will be my best option if ever I decide to study again, but as of the moment, I am going to think this a million times over. I have two degrees and have not be able to put to practice any one of them!
