Movies: 127 Hours and Buried

I watched two movies with only one main character in almost 90% of the movie. During the course of the movies, you are often left to wonder whether their families should start making funeral arrangements already but these movies end differently.

Read on.

127 hours

Synopsis: A mountain climber becomes trapped under a boulder while canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah and resorts to desperate measures in order to survive. If you do not have the stomach for self-mutilation, don’t watch the movie. You will literally cringe throughout the movie and you might realize that one small irresponsible action (like not telling anyone where you are going, even if you are past 30!) can ultimately risk your life. It makes me want to make sure I am physically fit, just in case anything happens.

buried

Paul Conroy is not ready to die.

But when he wakes up 6 feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why, life for the truck driver and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for survival. Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, his contact with the outside world and ability to piece together clues that could help him discover his location are maddeningly limited. Poor reception, a rapidly draining battery, and a dwindling oxygen supply become his worst enemies in a tightly confined race against time- fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul has only 90 minutes to be rescued before his worst nightmare comes true.

Ryan Reynold is able to to take you through everything just by acting in a box. It ends tragically (spoiler alert) but then, this movie is about real life, unfortunately. Ryan is the only actor you will see in this film and every scene is shot with him buried to the ground – alive.

Gulliver’s Travels

Synopsis: Travel writer Lemuel Gulliver takes an assignment in Bermuda, but ends up on the island of Liliput, where he towers over its tiny citizens. Travel writer Lemuel Gulliver takes an assignment in Bermuda, but ends up on the island of Liliput, where he towers over its tiny citizens.

Maybe because I expected much of Jack Black in this movie that was why I was disappointed. I loved him in the movie “School of Rock” and was quite surprised that the same antics were used for this movie. While his image is supposed to be a rockstar and a childman, he should be reading about apidexin reviews so he lose weight a little.

Not worth watching in the big screen for, sad to say.

Winners of the 2011 Grammy Awards!

It’s a good thing I don’t need to look for live streaming for the recent Grammys or else I would have dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep. YouTube, Twitter and a lot of blogs have helped me to see the Grammy’s!

Here is the complete list of the winners!

Little Fockers

little fockers

Unfortunately, Little Fockers is a stale movie and failed to be a deserving series to great comedy movies Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers. Inasmuch as I would want to burn belly fat from laughing, I wasn’t even laughing at the movie’s highlights and found myself distracted at so many points in the film. Granted, the storyline is great, there was just something missing. And the movie didn’t really focus on the Little Fockers, as the title of the movie implied, it still focused on Gaylord Focker and his father-in-law. It’s a great movie to pass the time, but I would not want to waste my money watching it in the big screen (Good thing I didn’t!)

They were implying a sequel towards the end of the movie too. I hope if ever they do, that they come up with a new formula to entice the movie audience.

Maternity Clothing from EMommie.com

Maternity Clothes have truly come a long way from all the pastel-colored, doll-looking dresses from long ago. Most maternity clothes from the past have big ribbons, have polka dots and come in dresses or capri pants. Now you see fashionable maternity clothes which feature jeans, suits and sexy dresses! Maternity clothes have come a long way in the last five years. There are now several more accessible shops who sell fashionable maternity wear, so gone are those dungarees and oversized smocks! In spite of this, it is still hard to find affordable, fashionable maternity clothes. When you find them, you want the staple pieces to carry you throughout your pregnancy and beyond, and you want them at the right price!

Maternity Jeans are considered a staple all throughout pregnancy as mothers these days are multi-taskers, taking older kids to school, doing grocery, running errands and maintaining the house. Being in comfortable jeans is a must. As your bump grows, you will in time need a pair of comfortable maternity jeans. Bootlegs are good, because they flatter any figure and balance your body out. For the more trendy ladies out there, it’s a pair of skinny jeans. One tip is to make sure they have elastane in them to give you the extra comfort & stretch you need.

Maternity Shirts have so many styles it can rival shirts being offered to usual racks of ladies’ clothing! What is more? They are even made of cotton jersey which clings to the body and accentuates your lovely baby bump!

Fine Wines: Tasting Class

This June 2011, my high school batch mates are planning to have a grand reunion, 10 years after we graduated from our alma mater. I volunteered to help out with the preparations, particularly with the food planning. It is an easy task for me because I have friends who are in the food business that are willing to give their services for a very affordable price. A friend also offered to give the members of the planning committee a free tasting class of fine wines. I’m very interested to try it out because this is something new to me. I haven’t thought that wine tasting is an art that can be learned.

The person who will teach us about wine tasting is my friend’s husband who’s been a bartender for a very long time. According to him, not all wines taste the same. Just by tasting it, one can determine if it’s a rare wine, a cheap wine, or a premier wine. All you need to develop is your keen sense of taste. Through practice and experiences of tasting different kinds of wines, he can easily identify the brand and type of wine that he drinks without looking at the label. I was amazed when he showed it to us and it made me want to become a wine expert just like him. I could probably make a career out of it.
