Whenever you say lucky, you tend to associate it with the color green, a pot of gold, a rainbow and the Irish. I really do not know where did the custom came from, all I know is that Irish people tend to be really lucky and romantic.
Case in point, I’ve seen movies (particularly PS I Love You) wherein the male lead character is Irish and he is such an incredible romantic. And right now, if you live in the UK, having Irish Number Plates in you car would be the coolest thing. Aren’t Irish people lucky?
Those living in Ireland and have their car registered there (there are supposed to be six parts of Ireland and they have assigned letters to their car number plates) can use the letters I and Z in their plate numbers. In other parts of the UK, this is not permitted. So you can guess how many cool plates can be produced – BIG, BIZ and you wouldn’t want to miss VIP.
In fact, one of the most famous Irish number plates is VIP 1. This stunning was first issued by the DVLNI in 1979 for the scheduled visit of Pope John Paul II and was used on the “Popemobile” for the duration of his stay. After his visit the number plate was auctioned off and this classic car registration changed hands a couple of times before it was sold in July 2006 to Roman Abramovich, owner of a Chelsea FC, for a record breaking £285 000. That is also one selling point of an Irish car plate, it can change vehicles!
